My name is Brenda Chapman. I was born Brenda Kyle in Lachine, Quebec and my parents moved us to Chateauguay, Quebec on the south shore of Montreal when I was very young. This is where I grew up, went to school, etc. I graduated from Howard S. Billings Regional High School and started working at the then Northern Electric Relay & Electronics facility in Lachine, Quebec in the purchasing department.
My parents moved to Burlington, Ontario a few years later and I stayed behind as I was working as an assistant in the Engineering Department of Canadair (now Bombardier). After about 3 years, I decided to join my family in Ontario and began my career in Purchasing at C.R. Bard Canada Limited. I lived in Oakville for many years and spent my last 3 years in Canada in Milton, Ontario.
I completed my University courses (at night) and graduated from the four year York University program with my C.I.M (Certified in Management – P. Mgr) designation and then completed my purchasing education studies and obtained my C.P.P. (Certified Professional Purchaser) designation in 1994.
I spent the majority of my working career in the Purchasing field working for different companies, from C.R. Bard (medical) to Boehringer Ingelheim (pharmaceutical) to J.M. Schneider (food) and then Maple Leaf Foods purchased J.M. Schneider. I spent my last 10 years in Canada working for J.M. Schneider/Maple Leaf Foods as the National Purchasing Manager/Senior Manager, Purchasing Transactions.
Both my Father and Brother have always worked in the Sales side of things and I spent all of my working career on the other side of the table negotiating with Sales professionals for national contracts for all the ingredients, packaging and other miscellaneous products and services for all of the J.M. Schneider facilities across the country. After Maple Leaf purchased J.M. Schneider, I was the Process Owner, representing Purchasing on a team whose goal was to consolidate all legacy computer systems into one.
A few years ago, I took my first vacation in the Dominican Republic and fell in love with the people and their way of life. I came back about 5 or 6 times within two years and in the Spring of 2009 I rented a condo for about 7 weeks to see what it was like to live here. Well, I loved it and went back to Canada to sell my house, car and decided to move hear in 2009. My Son Kyle and I arrived in Bavaro on Oct 31, 2009 and I have been here ever since. Kyle moved back to Canada after about 10 months, but comes back to visit me and all the friends he made while living here.
I had worked with Anne Michelle Ryder at DR4Sale for my apartment rentals and got to know everyone in the office. About 6 months after I arrived, Cheryl asked if I’d be interested in meeting with her and Chris and I started working with the team at DR4Sale (now RE/MAX Tropical) shortly thereafter, starting in April 2010.
So, I officially switched sides of the table from being a Buyer to being a Seller! To me, it’s all about building trust and relationships! I built my career in Purchasing based on honesty, integrity and ethics in dealing with all our suppliers. These are values that are an integral part of building relationships with clients as well.
When clients come to the Dominican Republic to purchase a property, many of them have no idea how to go about getting bank accounts, where to purchase certain things, etc. and I like to provide my clients with as much information and assistance as possible to make everything seem as seamless as can be. Many of my clients have become good friends that I see every time they visit their property here and that’s one of the best parts of the job…………meeting new people all the time from such a variety of backgrounds, countries, etc.
Living in the sunshine every day just a few minutes from the beach is absolute paradise! Come see why people fall in love with Bavaro and keep coming back!
